Manyof you may be ready for cleaning up your diet and losing a few pounds in preparation for a healthy Spring and Summer, or even for some juice cleansing, as with the Master Cleanser Lemonade Diet, yet many more of you can benefit by "taking a break" from your overused foods and substances.

The beginning of the year and the months following are great times for body healing and balance to avoid getting sick over the colder winter months. Also, depending on where you are and when Spring springs forth, you can lighten up your bodies and clean up your habits. For most of you, I suggest at least taking a few week break from your favorite -- yet potentially problematic foods -- which often include wheat and bakedgoods, dairy products, and any foods with added sugar. And look at yourhabitual SNACCs:

  • Sugar
  • Nicotine
  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine
  • Chemicals.

One of the basic programs I suggest for my detox groups involves the removal of five key (and overused) items from your diet for this purification period. The Big Five are: Sugar, Caffeine, Alcohol, Wheat and Dairy Products. (Yes, similar to the SNACCs yet with added wheat anddairy to avoid. We would also take out meats to lighten our diet even more.) I look at this healthy process of habit "clean-up" and detoxification as a very affordable preventive medicine approach.
